Aqara Launches Power Plug UK: Smarter Control and Energy Insights for Everyday Appliances
Aqara UK today announced the availability of the Aqara Power Plug H2 UK (RGB), a new smart plug designed specifically for British Type G wall sockets.
Supporting electrical loads of up to 13A and 3250W, the Power Plug H2 UK allows users to add smart control and energy monitoring to a wide range of household appliances, including televisions, computers, lamps, coffee machines and washing machines.
Featuring both Matter over Thread and Zigbee connectivity, the new smart plug gives users greater flexibility when choosing how to build and manage their smart home. It also introduces an RGB indicator that can translate energy information into easy-to-understand visual feedback, helping households become more aware of how their appliances use power.
Two Protocols, Greater Flexibility
The Power Plug H2 UK is designed to support different smart home preferences through its dual-protocol architecture.
In Thread mode, the plug can connect to compatible third-party Matter ecosystems without requiring an Aqara hub. This allows it to work with leading smart home platforms, including Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings, when used with a compatible Thread-enabled Matter Controller.
Users who select Zigbee mode can connect the plug to an Aqara Zigbee hub and access additional functionality through the Aqara Home app. These Aqara-exclusive capabilities include more advanced energy monitoring, configurable load limits, detailed RGB energy feedback, LED-based automations and additional device protection settings.
The plug remains compatible with existing Aqara Zigbee hubs, allowing current Aqara users to expand their smart home without replacing their existing system.
Energy Information at a Glance
Built-in power monitoring enables users to view the energy consumption of connected appliances and create automations based on real-world usage.
Through the Aqara Home app, users can monitor live power consumption, review historical data and identify devices that may be consuming unnecessary energy. This information can also be used as an automation trigger, allowing the smart home to react when an appliance starts, completes a task or enters standby mode.
The integrated RGB LED provides an additional layer of visual feedback. In Zigbee mode, the indicator can display different colours based on live energy consumption or progress towards a configured monthly energy target, making complex power information easier to understand at a glance.
The RGB indicator can also be adjusted and controlled through supported Matter ecosystems, giving users greater control over how the light behaves within their smart home.
Make Everyday Appliances Smarter
The Power Plug H2 UK allows traditional electrical appliances to become part of a connected smart home without requiring the appliances themselves to be replaced.
Users can remotely switch connected devices on or off, include them in schedules and scenes, or combine them with sensors and other Aqara devices to create more responsive automations.
For example, a coffee machine can be switched on shortly before the user begins their morning routine. A washing machine can trigger a notification when its power consumption drops after completing a cycle. At the end of the day, unnecessary appliances can be switched off automatically to reduce standby consumption.
The plug can also support more intelligent charging routines. When charging protection is enabled, it can automatically switch off after the connected device draws less than 3W for 30 minutes, helping to reduce unnecessary trickle charging.
Designed for UK Homes
Developed specifically for British Type G sockets, the Power Plug H2 UK supports electrical loads of up to 13A and 3250W.
Its compact, low-profile design helps prevent the plug from obstructing neighbouring wall sockets, allowing households to make better use of multi-socket outlets and closely positioned wall connections.
Measuring 56mm in diameter and 66mm in depth, the plug combines a compact form with the capacity required for many common household appliances.
Safety That Responds Automatically
The Power Plug H2 UK includes multiple protection features designed to improve everyday safety.
Automatic overload and overheating protection can switch off the connected appliance when potentially unsafe operating conditions are detected. Users operating the plug in Zigbee mode can also configure load limits through the Aqara Home app.
A built-in child lock helps prevent the plug from being operated accidentally through a standard button press. Aqara users can enable Accidental Removal Protection for additional control over physical button operation when the plug is connected through Zigbee.
Together, these features help provide additional reassurance when the plug is used around the home.
