What are presence sensors FP1E and FP2? Functions and Benefits
Traditional motion sensors only react when something moves. But what about when someone is sitting still, reading a book, working at a desk, or watching TV? That’s where Aqara’s FP1E and FP2 Presence Sensors come in. Powered by advanced mmWave radar technology, these sensors detect even the slightest presence — breathing, micro-movements, and stillness — ensuring your smart home knows whether a room is truly occupied.
-
FP1E: A reliable, single-zone presence sensor that’s perfect for focused areas like bedrooms, bathrooms, or hallways.
-
FP2: A multi-zone, next-generation sensor capable of monitoring several areas of a room at once — ideal for living rooms, offices, and complex spaces.
With precise presence detection, zone-based automation, and integration with leading smart home platforms (Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home, Matter, and more), the FP1E and FP2 unlock automations that motion sensors alone could never achieve.
Think lights that never switch off while you’re still in the room, climate control that adjusts only when you’re there, and security systems that know exactly when a space is truly empty. Below are some examples of automations for a better understanding of the presence sensor functions
Automation Examples: FP1E
1. Energy Saving in Bedroom
With this automation scene, you can say goodbye to wasted energy caused by forgetting to turn off power when leaving a room.
IF Absence detected, THEN Turn off the light and air conditioner in the bedroom
2. Reminder of Prolonged Sitting
Promote a healthier work routine, reduce the risks of sedentary behavior, and prioritize self-care with reminders.
IF Still detected for over 30 min, THEN Send a notification, And change colour of light strip
3. Temperature Adjustment based on Human Activity
Effectively regulate the indoor temperature, creating a more comfortable environment.
IF Moving for over 30 min, THEN Lower cooling temp of air conditioner by 1 degree.
4. Status Detection for a Safer Home
Install the Camera Hub G3 at the front door. When the FP1E detects someone lingering at the doorway for more than 15 minutes, it automatically activates the G3 camera and starts patrol mode. It also sends a notification to alert the user that someone is at the door. This setup enhances the camera’s usage efficiency and makes surveillance more effective.
IF Absence detected for over 15 mins, THEN Turn on the Aqara camera G3 to monitor.
Automations Examples: FP2
1.Lean Away Mode without delays
Before, you needed to wait for dozens of minutes to make sure that the Away Mode will not be triggered while someone was at home. Now, you will be able to save energy and increase the protection without enabling the Away Mode manually.
IF Absence is detected by the Presence Sensors in each of the rooms, THEN Turn off the lights, Air Conditioning and arm the Alert System.
2.Wake Up, automation that doesn’t bother your family members
The FP2 can detect if someone is still in bed, and the Wake-Up automation will not be triggered in case another person wakes up.
IF Someone enters the bathroom while presence is still detected in the bed zone, THEN Don’t open the shades*
*Two automation should be configured: for presence and absence in the bed zone
3.Accent lighting that follows you
The lighting can now follow you around the room: only the lights near you will turn on, while other lights will turn off once you leave the area!
IF Presence is detected on the desktop, THEN Turn on the corresponding lights
4.Detect the presence, and start home security
Turn on the G3 camera by detecting the presence of people in a larger space: if someone is detected by FP2, the G3 camera will be automatically turned on for monitoring and can cruise the situation living room.
IF Presence is detected in the living room, THEN Turn on the Aqara camera G3 to monitor.
With a classic Aqara motion sensor it has the basic functions for example:
Detects motion at a distance!
The Aqara Motion Sensor detects human movement with passive infrared. It works with other smart accessories to set various scenes, such as turning on or off lights automatically when it detects activity or inactivity. It consumes low energy. No tools are required to install it, and you can simply place or stick it almost anywhere.
- 170-degree motion detection: You will be able to use the stock ultra-wide angle of the sensor or limit it using any
obstacle or a regular electric tape.
- Easy and flexible installation methods: No tools are required for installation. With a sensor stand and sticker, you can set the motion sensor wherever you want. The stand can make a 360 rotation and you can easily adjust the detection angle.
- Remote security notification: With the Motion Sensor, you can turn on alarm mode when you leave the house. When motion is detected, the hub will sound an alarm and send a notification to your phone.
- Automatically Turns Lights on or off: When motion is detected in the evening, the Hub light can be automatically turned on.
- 2-Year Battery Life: A tiny battery can provide the sensor with a solid battery life of 2 years
- Smart Control in Apple Home App: Works with other HomeKit-enabled accessories in the Apple Home app to make your life easier.
- Advanced Technology: A Japanese infrared sensor is used to detect human motion through the moving heat source and the US Polyolefin Fresnel lens is used for high precision detection. The shell is made of anti-UV material and the colour will not fade allowing for long-term usage. The high-quality flame-retardant material is used to improve safety.
However, here’s what sets the Aqara FP1e and FP2 apart from the rest:
FP1e:
- Ultra-Accurate mmWave Radar Sensor: Equipped with advanced mmWave Radar technology, the FP1E surpasses traditional PIR sensors in sensitivity and speed, detecting subtle movements with a 200 ms response time. It offers a wide, adjustable 120° field of view, covering up to 50 m² for ceiling installations and 35 m² for side installations, ensuring comprehensive and adaptable monitoring for various home environments.
